Hey hackers!

The BLS Hack Club Board would like to thank you all for making our EC fair such a blast! From both days, we received interest from 150+ students, and we couldn’t have done it without y’all. We are so excited for what’s ahead and we hope to see many new and familiar faces attend our first meet!

Our first meeting will take place on October 11th (save the date!) @ 2:30 PM in Room 306, where we will provide an overview of our club, our officer board, vote on what workshops to do this year, and get to know y’all.

If you would like to join the email list, please take a look at our website and click on the “JOIN” in the top right of the navigation bar. If you’re not sure if you’re already on the email list, there’s no harm in filling it out again. If you do not fill out the form, you will not be getting any future emails moving forward.

What is BLS Hack Club?

BLS Hack Club, a chapter of the international Hack Club network, is open to all BLS students and aims to build a diverse, supportive community. We put an emphasis on creating fun coding projects without focusing too much on the coding aspect. Our goal is to bridge the gap between coding knowledge and practical application, with projects like gaming consoles, educational web apps, and interactive workshops. No matter your experience, gender, or background, BLS Hack Club is a platform for everyone to collaborate and grow.

Projected Timeline

Throughout the school year, we will cover a variety of topics, including:

  • 3D Modeling + Printing

  • Sprig Game Development

  • Web Design

  • Printed Circuit Boards

  • AI Workshops

  • Using Machines to Create Art

  • Celebratory EOY Party

More information on the specific dates for each workshop will be determined soon, so make sure to keep updated with our emails!

International Hack Club News

The Boreal Express

This summer, 50 Hack Clubbers took a train across Canada.

On board, they built their own intranet and projects focused on climate change.

Click on the gif above to learn more about the story of a transcontinental hackathon bound journey across Canada, all throughout Jasper, Winnipeg, and Toronto:

On July 21st, a train full of hack clubbers embarked on an 8-day challenge to build projects centered around helping the environment, but were abruptly stopped at the very first destination, due to raging forest fires engulfing Canada. While spirits were low, no one was sure whether this meant the cancellation of the event, or a shortened trip, but one thing was clear: These teenagers saw the real-world effects of climate change right before their eyes.

Counterspell Hackathon

Counterspell is a beginner friendly game jam for high schoolers happening in 200+ cities simultaneously where artists, musicians, and coders get together to build apps and games. Build whatever you want! Any game counts!

The theme for Counterspell will be decided through peer voting before the event starts. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced in programming- we’ll have workshops, resources and mentors throughout the 24 hours to help you with your project.
